IN BETWEEN
Exhibition Identity
fabrication, LAYOUT, COLLAGE

As part of the University of West Florida's TAG Summer Residency, I was able to work with painter Marzia Ransom on both the title wall for the exhibition and a section in the exhibition itself dedicated to daily practice collages. The subject matter centers on the Virgin Mary, in all her facets. The title comes from the idea that the Virgin Mary is neither fully human but not quite heavenly, and exists in a gray area "in between." The title is also a nod to the several in-progress works shown in the exhibition; at the time of showing, these works were "in between" initial research and finished product.
My concept for the title wall and exhibition identity came from my own personal research, and is mainly inspired by Bernini's Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, the rays of light behind the sculpture, and the way that light catches on the sculpture. The gold bars that hang from the ceiling tie into Ransom's use of gold leaf in her paintings and are also reminiscent of a church organ. The use of bold, white, sans-serif letters allows the title to stand out while not distracting from the exhibition itself.
